People tell me they like my landscapes.

And I usually smile and nod. I think it's really rude/insulting to tell someone they're wrong when they give you a compliment, but seriously, landscapes don't have overbites, facial hair, funny-shaped faces, or any of the other elements from my sketchbooks that I think is fun. Yeah, I don't get it, but I'm glad you like them.

I had my first official meeting with the plein air group today, and I must admit that I've got some growing to do. I feel a bit overwhelmed any time I try to paint trees, and I think that my inked thumbnail sketches turn out cooler than the painting, half the time.

Poolside Plein Air

I just got invited to join http://pleinairpaintinggroup.blogspot.com , which was created by a few of the folks from Junction Point Studios. I discovered that this is a whole new way of painting for me, which is a polite way of me saying I'm no good at it. I also discovered that it's fun going outside to paint and getting strange looks from the lifegaurd, who undoubtedly was wondering what the heck I'm doing with a paint set at the neighborhood pool.
