a background worthy of such a majestic beast

I was looking through http://paullasaine.blogspot.com/ earlier and I noticed that this guy has some mad skills, so I decided to emulate one of his paintings, and since I didn't like the clouds I had done for the fat centaur, I chose to just redo the background rather than make an entirely new painting.

Speed Paintings: Caplin Rous and guy with loincloth

Sometimes I get home from work and I feel like doing something awesome, but I don't have 6 hours to spend on it. The solution: Speed painting.
the furry horse-like thing you see above is actually Austin's own capybara, Caplin Rous, whose blog can be seen at caplinrous.blogspot.com

Ever notice how you never see fat centaurs?

For all you true believers, here is the rare opportunity of seeing a fat centaur, complete with whirly pop, cookie, and combover. Also, a background. such a feat has not been attempted since Worm Tail.

Speed Painting: Cuchulainn

I felt like doing a painting. Cuchulainn was pretty much the coolest thing to come out of final fantasy12. It took me 50 minutes from start to finish, using only the fine tip pen brush in painter 9.

Update: Don't listen to Ondore's lies.

The sketchbook

I currently work at BRG research, where I do cold calling all day long. While I don't particularly enjoy being a menace to society, the job does have a nice silver lining of a lot of down time, which means plenty of time to draw. Since my makeshift cubicle doesn't have the greatest view in the world, all of my sketchbooking lately has been from photo reference that I bring in on a flash drive/CD. Since I've clocked in more than 150 work hours there, I've had a lot of time to work on things like artist emulations and anatomy studies.

Brother Wright

The High Councilor from my current singles ward probably has one of the coolest faces ever. I draw him pretty much at least twice every Sunday, and I don't think that he has any idea that I stare at him half of the time I'm in sacrament meeting.
Anyhoo, I saw an awesome painting on the Avalanche software blog that I wanted to emulate, so I borrowed the lighting scheme, color palette, and shape making from http://avalanchesoftware.blogspot.com/2009/03/last-magi.html
On a related note, if anyone can tell me how to do the hyperlink text, please let me know. Every time I try, it fails semi miserably.

Update: scanned in drawings of brother Wright from sketch book, for all you true believers.

More Tim

I feel like I've been getting a whole lot better at getting lighting schemes and colors that work, but I feel like I'm only able to get things 90% complete, and I don't know how to go the next 10%.

Freud would have a field day.

Acrylic with digital to make it feel more complete. Feel free to leave Freudian comments, but stay away from anything to do with my mother.
